Background of the Study
Maternal health remains a major concern in many parts of Nigeria, where high maternal mortality rates continue to be a significant issue. Yola South Local Government Area in Adamawa State is no exception, with numerous women in rural areas facing challenges such as inadequate access to skilled healthcare professionals, poor health facilities, and limited access to maternal health education. Despite the existence of various governmental and non-governmental efforts, maternal health remains a persistent issue in the region.
Local governments are pivotal in addressing maternal health challenges by implementing policies that promote maternal health education, access to healthcare facilities, and the training of healthcare workers. In recent years, Yola South LGA has launched initiatives aimed at improving maternal health, such as expanding healthcare facilities, distributing prenatal care resources, and promoting family planning. However, the effectiveness of these efforts requires thorough evaluation.
This study will assess the role of Yola South Local Government in improving maternal health and addressing challenges faced by women in the region.
